Until the end of this year, 165,000 vulnerable families in Tajikistan will receive 500 somonis in in an emergency cash assistance each, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP) says.

A statement released by a MoHSPP on August 3, in particular, says the second agreement on additional financing for the Tajikistan Emergency Covid-19 Project has been signed this year.

In August, 84,000 vulnerable families having children under 7 years old will receive the one-time emergency cash assistance.

In September-October, 56,000 vulnerable families having small children as well as having children between the ages of 7 and 16 under will receive the one-time emergency cash assistance.

In November-December, 25,000 vulnerable families having children with disabilities under 18 years old will receive the one-time emergency cash assistance.

A MoHSPP says that last year, in the framework of the first such an agreement, about 70,000 vulnerable families having children under 3 years old received the cash assistance.

Recall, the World Bank in February this year provided another US$12.57 million in grant financing for the Tajikistan Emergency COVID-19 Project in addition to US$8.63 million approved for COVID-19 vaccines.  These additional resources has helped further strengthen Tajikistan’s heath care capacity and protect vulnerable population groups in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This project aims at providing necessary support to allow for accelerated economic recovery and the ability to help the country’s most vulnerable households.  Thus, one-time emergency cash assistance will be provided to vulnerable households across Tajikistan in order to mitigate the social impacts of the pandemic.

The original Tajikistan Emergency COVID-19 Project, with a total financing of $11.3 million, was approved in April 2020 to support Tajikistan’s response to COVID-19.
