Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will pay a visit to Tajikistan in mid-September this year, a source within the Tajik government told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon.

Tajik capital will host summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Organization (CSTO) next month and Turkmen president will attend them as a guest invited personally by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, the source added.

The meetings of heads of state of the SCO and CSTO member nations will take place in Dushanbe from September 16-17.

High-ranking delegations from seventeen countries of the world and secretary-generals of SCO and CSTO will gather in the Tajik capital for participation in these summits.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a military alliance of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization currently has eight full members — China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia are four observer states, and SCO’s dialogue partners include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey.  ACEAN, CIS, Turkmenistan and the United Nations are guest attendances.

Recall, Tajik president’s state visit to Turkmenistan that took place in early August resulted in signing of 19 cooperation documents.

The diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were officially established on January 27, 1993 by signing of the Protocol "On the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan."

The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan has functioned in Ashgabat since February 1993. The Embassy of Turkmenistan operates in Dushanbe as well.

Tajik MFA says that in general, the current state of the Tajik-Turkmen relations has a tendency of phased expansion.  The process of practical implementation of the mutual desire of the two countries to work more closely in multi-dimensional cooperation in accordance with the potential and needs of the people reportedly can be seen in bilateral relations.
