On Thursday November 25, a signing ceremony for two new projects took place at the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe on November 25.

Japan’s Embassy says the grant contracts (G/C) were signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Takayuki Miyashita and the representatives of the recipient authorities. The total grant awarded by the Government of Japan for the projects amounts to 244,443 U.S. dollars.

The two new projects, funded under the scheme of Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), are; The Project for Construction of Medical Point in Navandarsoy Village, Tursun Uljaboyev Jamoat, Spitamen District”, signed with Temurjon Numonzoda, Chairperson of Spitamen District, for the amount of 121,869 U.S. dollars; and The Project for Construction of a New Building of the Department for Infectious Diseases of Central Hospital in Tojikobod District, signed with Mr. Qadriddin Faqerzoda, Chairperson of Tojikobod District, for the amount of 122,574 USD;

During the ceremony, Ambassador Miyashita made a following remark: “It is my great pleasure to sign two additional grant contracts (G/C) today, which will enable the construction of one medical point and one infectious disease ward.  To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of State Independence of Tajikistan.  I already handed over 21 new projects in Tajikistan within this year.  Besides these 21 projects, the number of G/C which I signed during this year also reached 20 today.  I am very pleased to note that we have mobilized 41 new GGP projects altogether in Tajikistan this year.  The new hospital building and the high quality equipment provided by today’s contracts will contribute to accurate diagnoses of the doctors and to comfortable and effective treatments for the patients.  I hope the building and the equipment will be maintained properly and contribute to the healthy life of the people in Tajikistan for many years to come.”

This year, handover ceremonies for 21 projects have been conducted and the grant contracts of 20 new projects have been signed by Japanese government.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.

As of today, GGP has supported 439 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 36 million has been provided since 1996.
