Eighteen experts in the field of fashion and sewing from Tajik educational institutions and clothing companies have enrolled in an intensive tailoring course featuring the most modern design technologies and innovative trends: Drafting and Sewing Bottoms and Pattern Drafting & Sewing, says press release issued by the International Trade Center (ITC) Office in Tajikistan.

This tailoring-centric Training-for-Trainers (TfT) program is made possible thanks to the Government of Switzerland through the ITC’s Global Textiles and Clothing Program in close cooperation with the Khujand Polytechnic Institute of Tajik Technical University (KPITTU).

The course started on December 15 and will be completed on December 29.  It is hosted by the Garment Training Center at KPITTU in Khujand and will jointly be conducted by ITC and the Singaporean Textile and an expert from the Singaporean company, Fashion Industry Training Centre International (TaF.tc International), Ms. Sue Lee. Earlier, a similar training was conducted in the Technological University of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.

The training course is covering both theory and practical knowledge in pattern drafting, garment construction, and dressmaking.  The participants will learn to adapt a basic pattern to develop various types of dresses.  Through hands-on experiences, the participants further improve their knowledge in drafting skirts and pants, and learn more about the sewing techniques involved in their construction.

Participants in the class are to be equipped with necessary skills in taking body measurements and fitting adjustments for dresses.  The class will be guided through each step of the construction processes, including the sewing technique on corners, curves, lining and garment finishing.

The classes are being conducted using a mix of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and lectures in order to convey learning concepts in a multifaceted approach and at the end of the course, certificates of completion will be awarded to all of the participants of the course.

The course aims to provide a unique opportunity for participants to develop their practical skills and creative methods for designing and sewing clothes, thereby allowing for the further transfer of the knowledge and skills they gain to their students, colleagues, and employees through the Garment Training Center, which was established jointly by the ITC and the KPITTU few months ago.  As a knowledge hub and bridge between the industry and educational institutions, the Garment Training Centre aims to supply the industry with a qualified skilled workforce in most efficient and effective way possible.

The International Trade Center’s Global Textiles and Clothing Program (GTEX) is a four-year program funded by the Government of Switzerland.  The GTEX program provides support to Textile and Clothing (T&C) companies in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) and the Middle East and North Africa (Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia).  The program’s goal is to promote T&C exports and to stimulate employment and income generation along the value chain.
