Russian citizen Sergey Proskuryakov who was temporarily living in Dousti district of Khatlon province has got a lengthy jail term for raping and killing a local 4-year-old girl.

According to information posted on the official website of the Prosecutor-General’s Office on February 17, a trial was held in December last year.

The Khatlon regional court sentenced Sergey Proskuryakov to 28 years in prison on December 16.  The sentenced followed his conviction on charges of murder (Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code) and violent action of sexual nature sexual violence against a person known to be under 14 years of age (Article 139 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code). 

He will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.

The official website of the Prosecutor-General’s Office notes that the incident took place in September last year.      

Sergey Proskuryakov, being in a state of drunkenness, met the 4-year-old girl, who was going to her mother.  He reportedly took her to a deserted place, where he raped her and then killed her in order to cover tracks.   

The press center of the Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan says Sergey Proskuryakov has nothing to do with the base.  

According to some source, Proskuryakov has lived I Tajikistan since 1991.
