Over the first three months of this year, Tajikistan has imported US$53.3 million worth of medical goods, which is US$18.9 million more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP).

As source at a MoHSPP says more than 90 percent of medicines realized in Tajikistan are imported from other countries.

According to him, the MoHSPP and the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan exercise control over the quality of imported medicines.

At the same time, the source noted that despite some improvement in the health sector, circulation of unregistered drugs and drugs not meeting quality standards still remains a major problem.

“Activities of 189 pharmaceutical outlets and healthcare organizations have been inspected in the country since the beginning of the year, and 238 times of medicines and medical goods have been withdrawn from circulation, which is 37,460 items fewer than in the same period last year,” the source said.

Meanwhile, items of medicines produced in the country reportedly increased from 88 in 2015 to 404 in 2020, the source added.
