On Friday May 13, Tajikistan Ambassador to Ukraine Davlatali Nazirzoda met in Kyiv with Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmytro Senik.

The Tajik MFA information department says the two discussed the state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine, paying special attention to expansion of cooperation between the two countries within international and regional organizations.

They reportedly also touched upon issues related to economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries as well as further expansion of legal foundation of bilateral collaboration between Tajikistan and Ukraine.

It was emphasized during the meeting that a lot has been done to develop and expand relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries, and the results of the last year’s cooperation were assessed positively.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Ukraine were established on April 24, 1993.  Bilateral relations are based on a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and Ukraine, signed on July 6, 2001.  Tajik students have been trained in higher educational institutions of Ukraine.

Ukrainian enterprises, companies and organizations have participated in the implementation of hydropower development, the construction of transmission lines, and the establishment of joint ventures in the oil and gas industries.  In 2009, the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Tajik Commission for Economic Cooperation was established, where agreements in the trade, economic, energy, transport and humanitarian spheres take place.

The energy sector occupies a prominent place in the economic collaboration between the two countries.  Ukraine has supplied hydraulic turbines for the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

Currently, legal foundation of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine includes about 90 documents that cover a wide range of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Mutual visits of heads of state have reportedly played a special role in the development of comprehensive cooperation between Tajikistan and Ukraine.
