Diesel fuel prices are continuing to rise in Tajikistan.  Over the past week, diesel prices in the country have risen on average 3.88 percent. 

The price of one liter of diesel fuel in Dushanbe rose from 12.80 somonis on July 1 to 13.50 somonis on July 7 (5.2-increase), with similar price rises in other parts of the country.

In the US dollars, the current price of diesel fuel in Dushanbe is US$1.3 per liter (almost 35-percent increase compared to 2010, when the price of one liter of diesel fuel in U.S. dollars in Dushanbe was US$0.85)

In Khujand, the capital of Sughd province Sughd province, and Bokhtar, the capital of Khatlon province, the price of one liter the price of one liter of diesel fuel rose slightly: from 13.40 somonis on July 1 to 13.50 somonis on July 7 (0.74-prcent increase).  

In Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Province Project (GBAO), the price of one liter of diesel fuel rose from 13.20 somonis on July 1 to 14.00 somonis on July 7 (5.7-percent increase).

Over the previous week (June 24 – July 1), diesel prices in the country have risen on average 7.0 percent.

Experts said that the diesel fuel price hike has resulted from the rising cost of it in countries providing the bulk of Tajikistan’s fuel imports.  Moreover, those countries have reportedly limited diesel fuel sales in connection with harvest season.

Meanwhile, prices of other petroleum products remain practically unchanged in Dushanbe, Khujand and Bokhtar.

Thus, the price of one liter of 92-octane gasoline, which is the most sought-after grade of automobile gas in the country, on July 7, was 10.60 somonis in Dushanbe, 10.90 somonis in Khujand, 10.80 in Bokhtar, and 11.80 somonis in Khorog.      

Over the past week, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices have increased slightly in Dushanbe – from 610 somonis on July 1 to 6.20 somonis on July 7 (almost 1.6 percent increase), and in Bokhtar – from 6.20 somonis from 6.20 somonis on July1 to 6.30 somonis on July 7 (1.6-percent increase).

In GBAO’s capital, Khorog, the price of one liter of LNG rose from 6.80 somonis on July1 to 7.20 somonis on July 7 (5.6-percent increase).

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, gasoline prices have fallen on average 1.8 percent over the first five months of this year.  LNG prices have reportedly fallen 16.1 percent over the same five-month period.  

In January-May this year, Tajikistan has reportedly imported more than US$230 million worth of about 290,000 tons of petroleum products.  

Russian has provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s gasoline and diesel fuel imports – about 90 percent, and Kazakhstan has provided the bulk of Tajikistan’s LNG imports – more than 90 percent.
