Tajikistan has reduced wheat imports from Kazakhstan.  At the same time, Tajikistan has increased its goods exports to this country.   

Over the first nine months of this year, Tajikistan has imported US$194.7 million worth of 596,100 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan, which is 15 percent fewer in volume terms (In January-September, Tajikistan imported 700,900 tons of wheat from Kazakhstan) and 18.3 percent fewer in money terms (In January-September, Tajikistan imported US$224.8 million worth of wheat from Kazakhstan) compared to the same period last year, Zerno-Online reported on December 1, citing Joint-Stock Company (JSC) Center for Trade Policy, QazTrade.  

An average price for one ton of Kazakh wheat imported into Tajikistan reportedly rose 39 percent in a year to September 30, 2022, reaching 330.00 U.S. dollars. 

Wheat is the major items of Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan.  

However, despite the decrease in the grain supplies, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan has valued at 979 million U.S. dollars over the first nine months of this year, which is 22 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (Kaztag.kz). 

This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Kazakhstan estimated at US$387.8 (55.5-percent increase compared to January-September last year) and Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan worth US$591.2 million (7.0-lercent increase compared to January-September. 2022).

The major items of Tajikistan’s exports to Kazakhstan include ores and copper concentrates with a total worth of 122 million U.S. dollars, dried fruits and nuts with a total worth of 15 million US dollars, as well as fresh and dried grapes with a total worth of 6 million U.S. dollars. 

The major times of Tajikistan’s imports from Kazakhstan are wheat, margarine and steel products.
