On December 9, 2022, Switzerland and Tajikistan celebrated the main milestone of their cooperation – 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

For this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Mr. Sharaf Sheralizoda,  received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Tajikistan (with residence in Astana), H.E. David Grichting.  Both parties exchanged the congratulation letters of the Swiss and Tajik Presidents.

In his letter to the President of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon, the Swiss President H.E. Ignazio Cassis underlined the continued commitment of Switzerland to cooperate with Tajikistan, as outlined by the new Cooperation Program 2022-2025.

Through the Program, Switzerland implements its activities on water, infrastructure and climate change issues, as well as governance and sustainable economic development.

He also wrote that he values the longstanding relations between our two countries and wished a safe and prosperous future to the citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan.

To mark the anniversary of the bilateral relations, the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan organized a series of events throughout the year such as a Tree Planting Day tackling the global climate change issue, a Table Tennis tournament for promoting a healthy life style.  Additionally “A plus for Humanity” podcast was aired on the “Swiss Cooperation Tajikistan” Facebook page on December 9, 2022.

On December 10 and 11, 2022, the Theater of Opera and Ballet in Dushanbe opened its doors to the public for an exhibition on glaciers of Switzerland and Tajikistan organized by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan.

Switzerland and Tajikistan enjoy their fruitful cooperation since 1992 when both countries established diplomatic relations.  In 1998, the Swiss Cooperation Office opened in Dushanbe, establishing a continuous presence of Switzerland in Tajikistan.  In the past three decades, through different program and project activities, the Government of Switzerland has contributed more than CHF 500 million for the benefit of people of Tajikistan
