The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has granted license to Tad Duty Free Company to carry out transactions in foreign currency.

According to information posted on the Tajik financial regulator’s official website, the license is valid for the period of three years.   

Duty-free goods are goods that you can buy without paying the tax that would normally be added to their price, often sold in airports, on planes, etc.

In accordance with the country’s law on the currency regulation and currency control, transactions in foreign currency are banned in the territory of Tajikistan.  The main body of currency regulation is the National Bank of Tajikistan. 

The following types of activities on carrying out foreign currency related transactions require a license issued by the government: duty free shops; special services in foreign currency; currency exchange offices of authorized persons; mediation in the international foreign exchange market.  

Over the past two years, the Foreign Ministry, Tajik Air (Tajik national air carrier), Somon Air (Tajik privately owned airline), Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Sozidaniye LLC (owner of Hyatt regency Dushanbe Hotel), the State Unitary Enterprise Tajikairnavigation, CHL International (owner of Hilton Dushanbe Hotel), and Sky Catering (engaged in providing in-flight catering to airports in Dushanbe, Khujand and Kulob) have been granted the to carry out transactions in foreign currency. 

The standard term of this license is three years.
