Ambassador Congrats Manuel P. Micaller, Jr. is honored to serve the United States as the U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan.  He was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to Tajikistan on February 14, 2023 in Washington, DC.

He will replace Ambassador John Mark Pommersheim, who had served as the Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Tajikistan since February 2019. 

Recall, President Biden announced Mr. Micaller as nominee for the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Tajikistan in June 2022.  

Mr. Micaller is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, rank of Minister- Counselor.  

According to the US Department of State, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal.  Prior to that, Mr. Micaller was Deputy Chief and Mission (and also Chargé d’affaires, a.i.) at the U.S. Embassy, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  Mr. Micaller also served as the Deputy Director of the Office of India Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in Washington, D.C.  In addition, he had assignments as the Political-Economic Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy Dushanbe, Tajikistan and served as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission as well.  Mr. Micaller’s demonstrated success as a leader, coupled with his two and a half decades of service as a diplomat and his considerable experience with the issues of Central Asia, make him a well-qualified to serve as Ambassador to the Republic of Tajikistan. 

Mr. Micaller reportedly earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The Johns Hopkins University and his Master’s in Business Administration from George Washington University. He also received a Master’s Degree from the National Defense University, in Washington, D.C. He is the recipient of multiple performance awards from the Department of State.  His foreign languages include Russian and Tajik.
