In the first half of 2023, more than 36 thousand cars produced before 2013 were imported to Tajikistan. This is the last batch of such machines: from October 2 their import into the country stops completely.

The main reasons for the ban on the import of cars to Tajikistan, produced until 2013, are the prevention of accidents on highways and the reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. This was stated today at a press conference by the head of the Customs Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Khurshed Karimzoda.

According to him, in 2022 more than 45 thousand old cars were imported to Tajikistan, and in 2021 – more than 27 thousand.

Instead of outdated cars Tajikistan encourages the import of environmentally friendly means of transport – electric vehicles. For the period from January to June 2023, Tajikistan imported 709 electric vehicles.

Their total number in the republic, according to the Ministry of Transport, has already exceeded 1.4 thousand.

At the same time, the authorities intend to increase their share in the country to 20-30% of the total number of passenger vehicles in the coming years. These goals are set within the framework of the Program for the Development of electric Transport in the republic.

At the same time, Tajikistan has provided benefits for importers of electric vehicles, including exemption from customs duties
