According to the World Health Organization, the number of cases of coronavirus infection has increased by 63% compared to the previous 28 days.

According to WHO data, in the period from July 17 to August 13, about 1.4 million people in the world became infected with COVID-19. More than 2,366 thousand died.

The WHO weekly epidemiological bulletin notes that reports of COVID-19 cases have already been received from 104 states, the largest increase in the incidence was recorded in the Western Pacific region – by 97%. In other regions, including Europe, it has decreased.

At the country level, the largest number of cases were detected in the Republic of Korea (1,209,194 people, Australia (30,402 people), Singapore (18,806 people), Italy (18,419 people) and the United Kingdom (16,938 people).

The largest number of deaths were registered in the Republic of Korea (340 people), Australia (201 people), Russia (182 people), the Philippines (162 people) and Italy (159 people).

 

What about Tajikistan?

Tajikistan is not included in this list of countries from which reports of infection have been received. This was reported to Asia-Plus by the press center of the Ministry of Health of the country. According to Press Secretary Emomali Mirzoev, there is no coronavirus in our country at the moment.

At the moment, a new omicron – coronavirus EG.5 "Eris" strain, which was discovered on February 17, is spreading very quickly in the world. WHO reported this on August 9. It has been detected in 51 countries, its spread is observed in China, the USA, the UK, as well as European countries and Asia.

In Russia, according to RBC, this strain is not very widespread yet, but Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being warns about the risks of worsening the epidemiological situation.
