Iran defense minister stresses expanding cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani has held a meeting with Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan in Dushanbe to discuss bilateral relations and defense cooperation between the two nations, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported on October 18.

MNA notes that according to a report by the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, General Ashtiani and President Rahmon pointed to the increase in modern threats and dangers and stressed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in order to tackle terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking and transnational organized crimes.

At the end of the meeting, the expansion of cooperation as well as the full implementation of the documents and agreements made were supported and emphasized by the two parties.

MNA says that in order to strengthen and develop joint defense and military cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan, the Ababil 2 UAV production plant was inaugurated in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe in 2022.
