A Tajik-Iranian business forum took place in Dushanbe yesterday on the sidelines of an official visit of Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi to Tajikistan, according to the Tajik president’s official website.  Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Iranian counterpart Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi reportedly attended the forum.

Addressing the forum, Tajik president noted the importance of the forum for further expansion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.

He, in particular, noted that the practical implementation of the program of the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries designed for the period up to 2030 “will lead to significant results.”

Rahmon reportedly said industrialization, mineral and water resources are the key and strategic directions of development of Tajikistan.

He also pointed to the necessity of development of “green” economy and outlined sectors like mining, construction, light and food industries, chemical industry, agriculture, transport, tourism and pharmaceuticals as areas, which could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.

The forum reportedly brought together about 120 Tajik entrepreneurs and about 50 businesspeople from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The main purpose of the forum was reportedly “in presenting the maximum number of investment and business opportunities and promoting diversification of investments in Tajikistan’s economy.”  The forum participants held a number of meetings in B2B format to discuss cooperation issues.

Today, visiting Iranian businesspeople are visiting a number of Tajik industrial enterprises.

The bilateral forum created as a format for business community representatives from both countries to explore areas for cooperation was the keynote event on the occasion of Iranian president’s visit to Tajikistan.   However, there is no indication that the forum produced any firm deal-making.

Recall, the previous Tajik-Iranian business forum was held in a virtual format on July 7, 2021.  That forum was reportedly attended by more than 200 participants from both sides, including heads of government agencies, enterprises and organizations, business associations, stock exchanges, as well as representatives of the private sector of the two countries.
