The transport tax will rise 5.88 percent in Tajikistan beginning on January 1, 2024.  The rise in the transport tax reportedly results from increasing calculating indictor in the country starting from January 1 next year.

Recall, the RT Law “On the National Budget for 2024” notes that the calculating indicator will rise 5.88 percent beginning on January 1, 2024 – from the current 68.00 somonis (US$6.20) to 72.00 somonis (US$6.60).

The transport tax is a tax levied on vehicles, ships and aircraft using public highways, rivers, and airports maintained by the government.

In accordance with the country’s Tax Code, the transport tax rate is set depending on the engine power, jet engine pressure, type of vehicle, the number of seats, load capacity, scope of activity based on one horsepower of engine power,  1 kWh of electric motor power and one kilogram of jet engine pressure.

For example, tax rates for passenger cars are set at the following levels:

  • Passenger cars with an engine power of up to 250 hp – 7.5 percent of the calculating indicator per horsepower (1,350 somonis per year instead of the current 1,275 somonis).
  • Passenger cars with an engine power of 300 рh to 350 hp – from 2,592 somonis to 3,024 somonis instead of the current 2,448 somonis to 2,856 somonis.
  • Passenger cars with an engine power of 350 hp and above – 3,780 somonis instead of the current 3,570.

The transport taxes for other transport means (motorcycles, buses, trucks, tractors, aircraft and others) can be found in the Tax Code (Article 360).
