Tajik MFA information department Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev arrived in Dushanbe on February 4.

On the same day, Tajik Foreign minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin and his Kyrgyz counterpart Jeenbek Kulubayev discussed issues related to state and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

They reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.

The meeting ended with signing of a program of cooperation between foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan designed for 2024-2025, says the Tajik MFA information department.

Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan’s state-run news agency Kabar says Kulubayev arrived in Dushanbe on February 4 on an official visit at the invitation of his counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

In the course of the talks, Kulubayev reportedly noted that Kyrgyzstan remains committed to further strengthening good neighborly relations with Tajikistan.

He emphasized that delineation of the disputed stretches of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border will allow the parties to intensify bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.  The Kyrgyz side is reportedly committed to a speedy and mutually beneficial resolution of the issue of delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, taking into account the interests of each party.

Tensions between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has remained high until recently, owing to a border dispute, as well as other issues involving irrigation, smuggling, and illegal border crossings.

This dispute has led to clashes between the two countries, the latest of which broke out at a disputed stretch of their border in the Batken region on September 14, 2022.
