Construction of the Sanobod hydropower plant in Rushan district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) will allow you to export electricity abroad, in particular to the north of Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Minister of energy and Water Resources Daler Juma noted on Tuesday (March 12) during the presentation of the project to construction the 110/35/10 modular substation in the district.

Paighomi Rushon, the mouthpiece of the Rushan district administration, cited Juma as saying that the construction of the substation is being financed by the European Union and it will turn the Rushan district into a center for the distribution of electricity in the province.

The minister reportedly concluded that the substation “will help provide electricity to new industrial enterprises and population of the Rushan district.”

Addressing the event, GBAO Governor Alisher Nabot noted that compared to other regions of the country, the GBAO is better provided with electricity, according to Paighomi Rushon.

It is to be noted that the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region is provided with electricity by local hydroelectric generators, which are operated by the Pamir Energy Company.

Alisher Nabot further emphasized that construction of the Sanobod hydropower plant “will be a big step towards the industrialization of the region.”

“This year, we plan to introduce 50 industrial enterprises into operation and they must be provided with electricity,” the governor added.

The then Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda noted on July 22, 2015 that “the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR) and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on construction of the Sanobod hydropower plant in GBAO’s Rushan district.  “Under this document, the AKF will conduct feasibility study for the plant that will have capacity of 100 to 125 MW,” Usmonzoda added.
