Development partners support development of sustainable agriculture system in Tajikistan

At the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, a roundtable entitled “Development of the Agro-Food and Sustainable Agriculture System for the Period up to 2030: Implementation Process Review and Further Plans” took place at Hayat Regency Dushanbe on March 13.  

Press release, issued by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Office in Tajikistan, says the event members included the Minister of Agriculture, the Chairman of the Committee on Food Security under the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan, diplomatic corps, and development partners.

The purpose of the round table was to review the implementation process and determine the monitoring and evaluation mechanism of the Program for the Development of the Agro-Food and Sustainable Agriculture System for the period up to 2030 (Program) with the involvement of all interested parties, including development partners in the process of its implementation.

Inaugurating the event, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Qurbon Hakimzoda, reportedly noted the support provided by the President and the Government for comprehensive development of the agrarian sector and beneficial cooperation with development partners.

Along with other development partners, AKDN Resident  Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network in Tajikistan, Qazidavlat Qoimdodov, while speaking about the implementation of the Program  and further cooperation, noted that the AKDN agencies (MSDSP) last year invested in the agriculture sector and food security, resilience to climate change, employment and entrepreneurship, health and nutrition, irrigation system reconstruction, wheat seeds, potatoes, construction of greenhouses, small agricultural machinery, promotion of green enterprises, etc.

Today, AKDN is reportedly attracting experienced foreign specialists to provide practical assistance in the future for the survey and economic justification of some of the mentioned projects.
