Thousands of people in Shahrinav receive better access to healthcare

The Rural health center (RHC) in Shahrinav district has been renovated and equipped. This will significantly improve medical services for the population provided by family doctors and nurses. The population (approximately, 8000 people) of the village of Mirzo Tursunzoda and other neighbouring villages now have access to primary health care services at the renovated RHC. 

The activity is supported by the “Building a System on Integrated Primary Health Care in Tajikistan” (BaSIC) project, funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The BaSIC project, covering 28 districts, actively promotes the accessibility and quality of integrated primary health care services. This includes training of health care and administrative staff, as well as building and renovating health care centres. The Project is developing affordable and sustainable models for PHC, as well as to building management skills in the health sector and strengthening the capacity of national institutions.

Together with the representative of the Hukumat of Shahrinav district, GIZ country director in Tajikistan Sabine Olthof, and other officials, Niels Annen, State Secretary of Parliament and Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) visited a rural health center (RHC). During the visit, Niels Annen, State Secretary of the Parliament and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development praised the quality of the work carried out
