On Monday April 22, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Lord David Cameron.

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom.

In the course of the talks, Tajik leader, in particular, noted, “We consider the United Kingdom an important partner in Western Europe.  Our country pays great attention to the development and strengthening of multifaceted relations with the United Kingdom.”

Mr. Cameron, for his part, expressed satisfaction with a noticeable expansion of multifaceted relations between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom and with their good prospects, the Tajik president’s official website noted.

The parties reportedly discussed cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The expansion of inter-parliamentary relations was one of the important topics of the meeting.

Emomali Rahmon reportedly invited the United Kingdom to invest in mining, metallurgical, light and food industries, as well as pharmaceutical and agrarian sectors of Tajikistan.

The parties expressed interest in expansion of cooperation on production of “green energy” and transition to “green economy”.

They also discussed issues related to establishment of cooperation between the countries on solving water and climate problems, labor migration and launching air routes between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom.

Rahmon and Cameron reportedly also discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom in providing security and stability in the region.

British Foreign Secretary arrived in Tajikistan on first leg of his tour of Central Asia and Mongolia.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office says this week’s visit underlines the UK government’s ambition to increase engagement with this pivotal region, and is a crucial moment to drive forward British values, build our geopolitical relationship and deliver opportunities for people in the region and the UK.
