The Communications Service under the Government of has expressed concern about and disagreement with the unreasonable step of mobile communications companies operating in the country to raise their rates.

In statement released on April 22, the communications service agency, in particular, emphasizes that  “this decision interferes with the process of improving the quality of mobile communications services and prevents the reduction of their costs as well as has a negative impact on the economic and social situation of the country's population.”

“Fortunately, the mobile communications companies have changed their mind and refused to increase the rates.  However, now some telecom operators are again trying to raise prices for mobile communications services by any means,” says the statement.

The communications service agency reiterates the previously state positions and considers this decision inappropriate and calls on all mobile operators not to take “any unconsidered or unacceptable actions.”

Besides, the communications service agency asks the relevant authorities “to evaluate such a decision, which contradicts the wishes and economic needs of society as well as the government’s initiatives aimed at reducing prices for mobile communications services and improving the quality of electronic communications.”

Recall, the communications service agency officially announced the cancellation of the increase in mobile communications rates on January 24 this year.

The statement, which was published on the agency’s Facebook page, says all mobile operators functioning in the country had decided to raise their rates from February 1 and had informed their customers about it through text messages.

The Communication Service noted that such actions by mobile operators contradict the directives and instructions of the country’s leadership.  The statement emphasizes that the increase in the communications services prices does not align with the goals of the government policy aimed at reducing the prices of communication services and improving their quality.

Moreover, the price hike may have a negative impact on the socioeconomic situation of the population and hinder the implementation of important measures for transition to non-cash payments.
