A Dushanbe mom has a taxi journey to remember after giving birth in the back of the cab.

On May 10, a 22-year-old resident of Dushanbe, Tamanno Jamilova, gave birth to daughter in the back of the cab while en route to a maternity hospital.

Tamanno’s mother, Safarmoh Saidova told Asia-Plus in an interview that when her daughter started having contractions, she called the Olucha Taxi Company and ordered a cab, asking the operator to send a taxi as quickly as possible.

She noted that Tamanno’s husband is currently working in Russia as labor migrant.

But they were unable to reach the maternity hospital on time due to heavy rain and traffic jams.

“I have never seen such rain, and despite this, the taxi driver tried to drive faster,  but due to traffic jams we were not able to get to the maternity hospital on time,” said Safarmoh Saidova. “Tamanno gave birth to daughter in the back of the cab when we just reached the Visa and Registration Department.”

According to her, they asked the driver to stop the car and get out.

“We were confused and could not cut the baby's umbilical cord, therefore, we called the driver and thus got to the maternity hospital.  Near the maternity hospital, the doctors cut off the umbilical cord, after which they took them to the maternity hospital,” Tamanno’s mother.

Safarmoh Saidova says that now her daughter and granddaughter are doing well  and they will be discharged from the hospital within the next few days.

Now Tamanno Jamilova and her daughter have an annual certificate for free rides in Olucha Taxi cabs.
