Rahmon meets Saudi minister of environment, water and agriculture here to discuss cooperation

On Tuesday June 11, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met here with the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdulrahman Al-Fadley on the sidelines of the Third International Conference on the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”, according to the tajik president’s official website. 

The two reportedly discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia.  

“We consider your presence at the 3rd Dushanbe Water Conference as another proof of the constant interest of the top leadership of Saudi Arabia in strengthening multifaceted relations with Tajikistan”,  Emomali Rahmon stated at the beginning of the meeting. 

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties had a fruitful discussion on issues of multifaceted cooperation between the two friendly countries, including issues related to water, climate, environment, implementation of investment programs and projects in profitable sectors such as agriculture and industry, especially light and food industries.

Much attention reportedly was paid to the export of certain agricultural products of Tajikistan to Saudi Arabia.  Establishing direct routes between the cities of the two countries was considered an effective factor in the development and strengthening of bilateral relations, including in the direction of tourism and trade growth.

Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley has served as the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture since January 2015.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 11, 1992.  Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were established on February 22, 1992.  The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Riyadh was opened in September 2008. The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Dushanbe was opened in 2010.
