The largest taxpayer in Tajikistan in the first half of this year was the joint TajikChinese enterprise Zarafshan, which is engaged in gold mining and production in Penjikent.

We are talking about internal taxes and other mandatory payments, which are collected by the Tax Committee under the Government of the Republic.

According to the Tax Department, the Zarafshan joint venture, 75% of which is owned by the Chinese company Zi Jin Mining Group Co. Ltd, paid taxes in the amount of 745 million somoni (over $70 million) in the first six months of this year.

The second is the Mining Company of Tajikistan and China (a subsidiary of Tibet Summit), the total amount of tax deductions to the budget of which amounted to 243 million somoni (about $23 million). This company is engaged in geological exploration, geodetic works, extraction, enrichment and smelting of metals (lead, zinc, copper, silver) in the north of Tajikistan.

At the same time, the Tax Committee notes that the payment of taxes by the "Mining Company of Tajikistan and China" (TajikChina Mining) decreased in the first half of this year due to financial and production difficulties. The department expects that these problems will be resolved and tax revenues from this company will recover by the end of this year.

Anzob Metallurgical Company is in third place – the company paid internal taxes in the first half of the year in the amount of 196 million somoni ($18.5 million). The company belongs to the American company Comsup Commodities Inc. It produces mercury-antimony concentrate in the Aini district.

Also among the largest taxpayers with 101 million somoni ($9.5 million) is the Pakrut company, whose full stake belongs to the Chinese corporation China Nonferrous Metal International Mining Co., Ltd. This company is engaged in the extraction and production of gold in the Vakhdat district.

According to the Tax Committee, in the first half of this year, 9 billion 837 million somoni ($928 million) were allocated to the country's budget due to the collection of internal taxes and other mandatory payments, which is 6.7% more than the planned volume.

The department has registered 2,631 enterprises with foreign capital as taxpayers. Of these, 740 enterprises (about 30%) with Chinese capital.

It should be noted that China is the largest investor in Tajikistan. According to the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, in 2007-2023, China invested $3 billion 845 million in the Tajik economy.

This is followed by Russia ($1 billion 851 million), Kazakhstan ($1 billion 209 million), the USA ($808 million), Britain ($805 million) and others.
