“Tajik Rare Metals” (“Tajredmet”) and “Kazatomprom” signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in the field of mining and processing of uranium, rare and rare earth metals.

The document was signed on August 22 during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Tajikistan, the press service of “Kazatomprom” reported.

The memorandum provides for a strategic partnership in the mining industry of both countries. The companies plan to "work together on the implementation of initiatives including the exploration, production and processing of uranium and other rare earth metals, research and development work, the introduction of innovative technologies, as well as personnel training."

"Although it is too early to talk about concrete results, we are focused on promising joint projects in the uranium industry, as well as on rare and rare earth metals, which can bring significant benefits to both Kazakhstan and Tajikistan," – said Meirzhan Yusupov, Chairman of the Management Board of “Kazatomprom”.

In the near future, representatives of the “Tajredmet” company will arrive on a return visit to Kazakhstan to get acquainted with the production facilities of “Kazatomprom” and assess in more detail the potential for further cooperation.

“Kazatomprom” is the world's largest producer of uranium. In 2023, the company accounted for about 20% of the total global production of natural uranium. “Kazatomprom”, together with its subsidiaries and joint ventures, is developing 26 deposits combined into 14 uranium mining enterprises. All of them are located on the territory of Kazakhstan. In uranium mining, they apply the technology of underground borehole leaching, paying special attention to best practices and controls for health, industrial safety and the environment.

“Tajredmet” is a state–owned unitary enterprise, which has on its balance sheet all tailings dumps and rock dumps of the uranium industry of Tajikistan. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan and is the operator for reclamation works.
