The population of Tajikistan, on average, spent 113.12 somonis per month per family member on the purchase of meat and meat products in 2023.  This data comes from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, based on a survey of 3,000 household budgets.

In 2023, spending on meat and meat products reportedly increased by 25.37% compared to 2022.

The survey has been conducted since 2016, when the population spent an average of 22.47 somonis per family member on meat purchases.  Over the course of 8 years, expenditures have reportedly increased more than fivefold.

In 2016, the price of one kilogram of meat at Dushanbe’s bazaars averaged 30 somonis.  Today, meat at Dushanbe’s bazaars costs on average 90 somonis per kilogram.

Along with the increase in spending, meat consumption has also risen, with per capita consumption reaching 24.2 kilograms per person in 2023, which is 11% more than in 2022.

In 2016, each person in Tajikistan consumed an average of 14.7 kilograms of meat products per year.

According to the Agency for Statistics’ household budget study, meat and meat products are consumed more by urban residents—30.1 kilograms per capita—while rural residents consume 20.3 kilograms per capita annually.

It is worth noting that the approved meat consumption standard in Tajikistan is 40.8 kilograms.

Currently, the population's annual demand for meat is estimated at approximately 380,000-385,000 tons.

According to official statistics, more than 148,800 tons of meat in live weight have been produced in Tajikistan over the first eight months of this year.
