Barqi Tojik Company has confirmed that it has proposed an increase in electricity rates in Tajikistan. The Antimonopoly Agency was the first to report on this proposal.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Barqi Tojik top manager Mahmadumar Asozoda confirmed on February 11 that he had submitted a proposal to raise electricity prices to the relevant authorities. He stated that the proposal is currently under review by the government of Tajikistan.

However, he did not specify when the tariff increase would take effect or by how much, emphasizing that this decision falls under the jurisdiction of the government.

No final decision yet on Tariff Increase

Earlier, on February 5, Safarali Qurbonzoda, the First Deputy Chairman of the Antimonopoly Agency, told reporters in Dushanbe that no final decision on raising electricity tariffs had yet been made.

He also noted that the exact amount of the price increase remains unknown and will only be determined after considering the costs of production, transmission, and distribution of electricity.

According to Qurbonzoda, under agreements and regulations approved by relevant organizations and agencies, the need for electricity tariff adjustments is assessed annually.

Furthermore, it is still unclear whether the rate increase will apply to all consumers in the country, only to households, or to specific categories of users.

Under Tajikistan’s legislation, electricity rates are approved by the government.

The last electricity tariff increase in Tajikistan took place on January 1, 2024, when rates rose 16%, from 26.51 dirams per kilowatt-hour to 30.75 dirams.
