The bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan rose 7.4 percent in a year to December 31, 2024, reaching over US$1.2 billion.  Alibek Kuantyrov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, told Asia-Plus this during the Astana International Forum (AIF).

Despite the absence of a shared border, cooperation between the two countries is developing actively, Kuantyrov said, citing the implementation of Kazakhstan’s electronic government and document management system as a successful example, which is currently being piloted in Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan exports wheat, steel semi-finished products, natural gas, petroleum products, and other goods to Tajikistan. Tajikistan, in turn, exports mainly agricultural products to Kazakhstan — including fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Both countries are actively working to expand trade relations and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Astana International Forum, which was held in Kazakhstan’s capital on May 29-30 under the motto “Connecting Minds, Shaping the Future”, brought together more than 1,000 participants — heads of state, businessmen, scientists, and representatives from over 70 countries.  The main topics discussed were foreign policy, international security, and climate change.

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his welcoming speech, emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation amid growing global polarization, which increases conflicts and tensions. “In times of growing global uncertainty, what matters most is how we respond,” he said, highlighting the forum’s role as a platform based on mutual respect.

Tajikistan was represented at the forum by First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ashourboy Solehzoda, head of the international department of Avesta Group Shamil Avgani, and some other officials.
