Since May, Dushanbe International Airport has prohibited the entry of accompanying persons — both those seeing off and meeting passengers — into passenger escort areas.  The airport’s press service confirmed the new policy to Asia-Plus.

The restrictions have reportedly been implemented to comply with international aviation security standards, maintain order, uphold sanitary and hygiene requirements, and prevent the spread of infections.  The measure also aims to keep the terminal clean and comfortable for all visitors.

The ban applies universally, with no exceptions except for specific cases.  Entry is still allowed for those accompanying people with disabilities, patients, or parents of minor children.

The press service also announced plans to create special waiting zones for accompanying persons as part of ongoing terminal improvements, designed to ensure the comfort and safety of all airport visitors.

In related news, the airport recently confirmed that the long-delayed electronic gates system (e-gates) is expected to be fully operational soon.  The e-gates system, which integrates data from all airlines, is currently undergoing updates with input from various government agencies.

“The e-gates system is about 90% complete, and final adjustments are underway,” said the airport press office.

According to Habibullo Nazarzoda, head of the Civil Aviation Agency, the official launch of the e-gates is scheduled for March 15, 2025.

Meanwhile, leadership changes have taken place at Dushanbe International Airport. Zainullo Sharifzoda has been appointed as the new airport director, replacing Ismatullo Abdullozoda.

Abdullozoda and his deputies were dismissed following a financial audit that uncovered serious violations in their activities. Prior to his new appointment, Sharifzoda served as director of the State Procurement Agency under the Government of Tajikistan, a position he has held since 2020.
