Over the first four months of this year, Tajikistan’s external trade turnover has estimated at 3,114,100,000 U.S. dollars, which is 13.8 percent or 378.6 million US dollars more than in the same period last year.  according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan..

The trade balance was negative and amounted to 1.843,100,000 U.S. dollars.

In January-April this year, Tajikistan has reportedly trade relations with 102 countries, including 10 CIS member nations. 

Over the reporting period, exports of goods have amounted to 653.5 million U.S. dollars, which is reportedly 13 percent or 94.7 million U.S. dollars less than in the same period last year.  

The reduction in exports was mainly caused by a dramatic decline in the sale of precious metals and gems by the republic (247 times — from US$299 million in January-April 2024 to US$1.2 million in the same period this year). The volume of mineral products exports (cement, ores, concentrates, and other raw materials) also noticeably decreased.

In January-April this year, the country’s exports have reportedly consisted mostly (about 80%) of raw materials such as nonferrous metals (primary aluminum) and mineral products.

Over the reporting period, the major partners for Tajikistan’s exports were the Netherlands — 25.6%, China — 20.8%, and Turkiye — 14.7%.

Over the same four-month period, imports of goods into Tajikistan have amounted to 2,478,600,000 U.S. dollars, which is 23.6 percent or US4473.3 million more than in January-April last year.     

The growth in import volume was primarily due to the purchase of transport vehicles, including locomotives and wagons, as well as machinery and equipment (generators, turbines, pumps, engines, and others).

In the country’s import structure, mineral products accounted for a relatively high share (18.7%), transport vehicles (13.6%), machinery and equipment (12.6%), and non-precious metals (10.2%).

Over the report period, the major partners for Tajikistan’s imports were Russia — 28.3 percent, China — 23.9 percent, and Kazakhstan – 13.7 percent.  

In January-April this year, the major trading partners of Tajikistan were Russia — US$762 million, China — US$725 million, and Kazakhstan — US$369 million.
