Uzbekistan reportedly toughens regulations for duty-free import of goods

Uzbekistan has reportedly toughened regulations for duty-free import of goods.  Uzbek nationals now can bring not more than two kilograms of food products per month and one home appliance twice a year into the country.

CA-News reports the Uzbek Government issue a decree on toughening regulations for duty-free import of goods on October 17.

Earlier, Uzbek citizens were reportedly allowed to import twenty items of goods per month.  They could import up to two kilograms of food products or home appliance per day, according to CA-News.

Meanwhile, Uzbek media reported in February this year that Uzbekistan has introduced changes into the norms of duty-free import and export of goods.  The maximum limits for imported goods were reportedly set for air, railway and river, as well as bus services.

New norms of duty-free importation and exportation were for ordinary citizens, who are not representing any organization. The corresponding decision was signed by the President of Uzbekistan on February 6.

Under that decree, citizens can import without any customs duty goods costing up to $2,000 if the border is crossed through the international airports of Uzbekistan; costing up to $1,000 if the border is crossed on the railway or river transport; and costing up to $300 if the border is crossed through road checkpoints.
