Uzbekistan may be given an opportunity to participate in sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) as an observer. State Duma Speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, who is also Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, made such a proposal during a meeting with Nematulla Yuldashev, Speaker of Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"We may consider the possibility of your country participating in sessions of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly as an observer,” Mr. Volodin said.
Mr. Volodin noted that within the framework of that parliamentary format, they could discuss issues of legislative support for solving security problems and combating drug trafficking and consider adopting model laws in those areas
At present, the National Assembly of Serbia, Wolesi Jirga (The House of People) of the National Assembly of Afghanistan, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia have status of observer at the CSTO PA.
