Bread expected to rise in cost in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Regional media outlets report that bread is expected to rise in cost in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

According to CA-NEWS, the price for a loaf bread in Uzbekistan is expected to rise to 1,500 sum (equivalent to 16 U.S. cents).

The price hike reportedly results from liberalization of grain and flour prices.  The price for one kilogram of wheat flour can rise from 1,400 sum (equivalent to 15 U.S. cents) to 2,000-2,500 sum (equivalent to 21-26 cents).

For the last time, bread prices were raised in Uzbekistan in September last year.

Bread prices will rise in Kazakhstan as well, according to Tengrinews.kz.

Kazakh Agriculture Minister Saparkhan Omarov was cited as saying, “Current prices for bread in the country fluctuate from 75 to 78 tenge (equivalent to 0.17-0.18 U.S. dollar) depending on the region.  The bread prices are expected to rise to 80-82 tenge (equivalent to 0.19 U.S. dollar).  I suppose it is a slight price increase.”
