The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announces resumption of trade and economic ties with Uzbekistan

Citing the Tweeter-account of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Commission for Prevention of Victims Among Civilians and Consideration of Civilian Complaints, Fergana says “A few days later, the first intermediary transporting commercial goods arrived in Afghanistan from Uzbekistan today [August 20].”

This, most likely, is about the resumption of the movement of goods through the border crossing point (BCP) Termez-Khairaton, according to Fergana.

Traffic via this border crossing point was terminated on August 14, after the Taliban militants seized the city of Mazar-e Sharif.

Nodirbek Jalilov, the Director of the Termez Cargo Center, which is the largest logistics terminal in southern Uzbekistan, told TASS on August 17 that despite the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan caused by the change of power in the country, the trade and economic ties between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan should resume soon.
