A security belt should be created in Central Asia, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, TASS reports.
«Particular attention should be paid to the formation of a security belt in the region», – he stressed.
This decision is related to the situation in Afghanistan. The formation of the belt, according to the President of Kyrgyzstan, should be a priority task of the states.
Sadyr Japarov noted that joint efforts allow maintaining stability and security in the SCO space.
But after the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from Afghanistan and the coming to power of the Taliban movement, "the issues of countering threats and challenges from the forces of international terrorism and extremism are of particular importance".
Sadyr Japarov urged the SCO countries to develop a unified strategy to combat threats from Afghanistan. The President of Kyrgyzstan noted that encroachments on the SCO member states should not be allowed. In addition, control over the migration flow from Afghanistan is required.
The President of Kyrgyzstan also added that the country is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and advocates an early end to the military conflict.
