Protest against sending Kyrgyz peacekeepers to Kazakhstan held in Bishkek

AKIPress reported on January 6 that a group of citizens has rallied outside the country’s parliament building in Bishkek in protest against sending Kyrgyz peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.  .

Around 15 people have reportedly demanded withdrawal of Kyrgyzstan from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Protesters have met with lawmakers who came for emergency session of the Parliament and asked them not to approve sending of troops to Kazakhstan.

Activists Klara Sooronkulova, Daniyar Amanaliev, Nurbek Toktakunov, Urmat Nasykulov and others are seen among protesters, according to AKIPress.

MP Talaiabek Sarybashev reportedly said the Parliament will consider sending troops to Kazakhstan. "We can't stay aside and just watch what is happening in Kazakhstan," MP Sarybashev said.

Meanwhile, 24.kg reported on January 6 that Kyrgyzstan does not rule out participation in CSTO peacekeeping mission.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov reportedly announced at the Cabinet’s emergency meeting that in accordance with the decision of the head of state and the CSTO Council, Kyrgyzstan confirmed its readiness to provide all-round support to fraternal Kazakhstan and, to the extent necessary, fulfill allied obligations within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in connection with the appeal of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
