Tajik specialists to attend 34th IGC in Australia

DUSHANBE, August 3, 2012, Asia-Plus — A Tajik delegation, led by Azim Ibrohim, Chairman of the main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan, will attend the 34th international Geological Congress (IGC) that will take place in Brisbane, Australia from August 5-10.

Under it’s theme, “Unearthing our Past and Future” the IGC is expected to showcase the Oceania region’s geosicence strengths, innovations and natural wonders, through an exciting range of pre and post Congress field trips.

The IGC, described as the “Olympics for Geologists”, is expected to attract more than 5,000 delegates from 112 countries.

The IGC is the oldest and most prestigious gathering of geoscientists in the world, having been held once every four years since 1878. It attracts delegates from industry, governments, academia, research organisations and professional societies globally.
