DUSHANBE, April 14, 2014, Asia-Plus – Torrential rain on April 12-13 caused a series of landslides that damaged residential buildings in several villages in Khatlon’s Shouroobod district, and according to some data, they left human casualties.

The Interior Ministry says the landslides affected residential buildings in the villages of Odinaboy, Panjosiyob, Garabdara and Loyluqa.

By president’s order a working group has been set up to assess the actual damage caused by the natural disaster and provide assistance to the landslide-affected people.

We will recall that floods that were caused by heavy rains in the Kulob region of Khatlon province on May 6, 2010 killed at least 20 people.  The Tebalay River breeched its banks, leaving many people unable to reach higher ground.  Dozens of buildings, roads, telephone lines, bridges and other infrastructure in Khatlon”s Shouroobod, Muminobod, and Vose districts were destroyed.

Many of the bridges in Kulob were damaged or destroyed.
