DUSHANBE, April 30, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Interior Ministry says the brawl that occurred in the office of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP)’s regional organization for Gorno Badakhshan in Khorog on April 28 was organized by IRP members themselves.
“The brawl occurred in IRP’s office in Khorog on Monday at around 2:00 pm between IRP members themselves,” Jamoliddin Sadriddinov, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, told Asia-Plus in an interveiw.
According to him, during a meeting that was presided over by deputy chairman of the IRP, Saidumar Husaini, an altercation occurred between the meeting participants.
“Police officers questioned the brawl participants and former head of the IRP organization for the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Asror Bulbulov, said that Husaini and Shonaim Karimi, the member of the IRP supreme council for GBAO, bad mouthed some sections of the region population while speaking at the meeting and some participants of the meeting made them apologize to the GBAO population,” Sadriddinov said.
“Saidumar Husaini and Shonaim Karimi did not apply to the Khorog law enforcement authorities; however, a decision was made on this incident and it was submitted for endorsement to the Khorog prosecutor’s office,” the spokesman added.
We will recall that Saidumar Husaini, who is also member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), told Asia-Plus on April 29 that he had been beaten in Khorog on April 28.
He said that about 15 unknown individuals attacked him, his son, and the IRP supreme council member Shonaim Karimi on April 28. According to him, Shonaim Karimi also sustained slight injuries.
Husaini said he did not plan to ask local authorities for help because he thinks the attackers included local police.
