DUSHANBE, May 11, 2014, Asia-Plus — On Thursday May 8, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon participated in an informal meeting of the presidents of member nations of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
We will that Erkinkhon Rahmatullozoda, Aide to the President for Foreign Policy Affairs, and some other Tajik state officials are accompanying Rahmon on his visit to Moscow.
According to the Russian media sources, the CSTO presidents discussed a number of issues being of mutual interests and Ukraine’s crisis.
They also attended what the Kremlin described a training exercise for Russian military forces.
On the sidelines of the CSTO informal meeting, President Rahmon met talks his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambayev.
The Kyrgyz president’s press center reported on May 9 that the sides discussed the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik common border.
They reportedly agreed to solve the issue of demarcation and delimitation of the common border in order to avoid border incidents in the future.
Both presidents noted that the issue should be solved at the level of the governments of the two countries.
Meanwhile, the Tajik president’s press center did not reported on Rahmon’s meeting with Atambayev.
We will recall that on May 8, one day after the clashes along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, officials in both countries described the situation along their common border as “tense” but stable.
Radio Liberty reports that some 1,500 residents of the Kyrgyz village of Kuktash and Tajikistan”s Vorukh exclave within Kyrgyzstan fell into conflict during the evening of May 7 and started throwing stones at each other. It reportedly took border guards and police from both countries several hours to restore order in the area.
