DUSHANBE, August 11, 2014, Asia-Plus — Representative of Tajik border troops for the Jirgatol stretch (eastern Tajikistan) of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border yesterday informed Kyrgyz border guards about an incident that took place near the Tajik border village of Tupakul (the Laysou glacier area) on August 9.
Tajik border guards on a routine patrol reportedly spotted three armed horsemen who were illegally crossing the border. As a result of exchange of fire, one of trespassers was killed and two others were detained.
A hunting carbine with eight bullets, a small-bore rifle TOZ-8 and binoculars were found at the incident scene.
The trespassers proved to be nationals of Kyrgyzstan from the Chon-Alay district in the Osh oblast. The body of the killed trespasser was handed over to Kyrgyz border guards on August 10 while the detained trespassers are still being held in the detention facility of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in Jirgatol.
According to the preliminary version, the Kyrgyz trespassers were engaged in illegal hunting in Tajik territory.
Border representatives of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are expected to meet today to jointly investigate the incident, the source said.
