DUSHANBE, October 21, 2014, Asia-Plus — A three-day exercise for disaster relief units of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will take place in the Leilek district of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region from October 22-24.
According to the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan (CES), groups for coordinating disaster response (international organizations involved in disaster and humanitarian relief) are also participating in this joint command-and-staff drill, dubbed Disaster 2014.
The exercise will be conducted in two stages and its scenario is based on a devastating earthquake striking the area.
The main objective of the drill is in rehearsing coordination of actions of disaster relief units of the two countries in the case of the transboundary emergency situation.
