On Tuesday September 17, Kyrgyzstan Charge d'Affaires in Tajikistan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan over the deadly clash that broke out on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border on September 16. A note of protest was reportedly handed over to him.

According to a statement released by Tajik MFA, Kyrgyz diplomat was summoned to discuss the clash that took place between residents of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the village of Bahor of the Ovchi-Qalacha jamoat in Bobojon-Ghafourov district of Sughd province of Tajikistan on September 16.

During the meeting, the Tajik side reportedly expressed protest to Kyrgyz charge d'affaires over actions of the Kyrgyz side, which once again began construction of facilities at a non-demarcate section of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border contrary to previous agreements.

It was noted that the Kyrgyz side had sent 250-300 military personnel to the incident side who had used firearms against peaceful residents of the Tajik village of Bahor and thereby forced Tajik border guards to take response measures in order to provide the safety of civilians.

“As a result of provocative actions of Kyrgyz servicemen, three Tajik servicemen were killed and a number of civilians, including women and two children, were wounded,” says the statement.

The Tajik side once again called on the Kyrgyz side to refrain from destructive actions on the order and take urgent measures to prevent the occurrence of such provocations in border areas of the two countries.

Recall, Kyrgyzstan yesterday summoned the ambassador of Tajikistan Tuesday after a Kyrgyz border officer was killed and more than a dozen injured in a shootout at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border.

The disputed region sees regular clashes, which have intensified since the start of the year.
