According to data made available by a special commission to date, 55 residential buildings have been damaged in border areas of Isfara district during the April 28-29 clashes on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, 17 of them have been destroyed completely, Zubaidullo Shomadov, an acting spokesman for Isfara mayor, told Asia-Plus Wednesday (May 5) afternoon.

“But this is not yet the final figure, as the special commission is still continuing its work in the area,” said Shomadov.  “Of 55 homes, 17 homes have been destroyed completely and 38 other homes have been damaged partially.  15 homes were damaged in Vorukh jamoat, six in Surkh jamoat, five in Shahrak jamoat and 29 homes have been damaged in Chorkuh jamoat.

According to him, builders arrived in the region Wednesday morning and restoration of the damaged residential buildings began.

ИЗОБРАЖЕНИЕ

The situation on the Tajik-Tajik border remains stable after deadly clashes in recent days as both sides continue blaming each other for the violence.

Like many other border areas in Central Asia, almost half of the 970-kilometer-long Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan has not been demarcated, leading to tensions over the past 30 years.
