DUSHANBE, September 23, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Islamic Revival Party deputy head, Mahmadali Hayit, has denied all charges brought against him.
His defense lawyer, Jamshed Yorov, says Hayit was confronted with one of members of mutinous general’s armed group on September 22.
“The men said that Mahmadali Hayit and IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri allegedly met with General Abduhalim Nazarzoda on March 6 and drew the plan of attacks on the government institutions and distributed public positions among them,” they lawyer said.
“Hayit, however, managed to prove that there was no such a meeting. At that time, Hayit was at IRP’s head office to hold a post-election meeting. All accusations were rebutted,” Yorov noted.
The lawyer added that he did not yet have exact information what charges had been officially brought against him client.
We will recall that thirteen leaders and activists of the IRP suspected of abetting the plot were arrested on September 16.
Tajik authorities say mutinous general Abduhalim Nazarzoda, who was killed in a special security operation in the Romit Gorge on September 16, was allegedly linked to the banned IRP.
In a statement released on September 17, the Prosecutor-General”s Office says Abduhalim Nazarzoda and his followers were acting on orders by IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri, who is currently in self-imposed exile.
