DUSHANBE, June 3, 2016, Asia-Plus — Wives of jailed Tajik Islamic Party activists have reportedly been fined for not obeying police orders.

A court in Dushanbe’s Shohmansour district ruled yesterday that wives of five jailed activists of the banned Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) should be fined for failure to obey police orders.

Savrinisso Jourayeva, the wife of the deputy IRPT head Mahmadali Hayit who was yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment, says that she and wives of four other jailed activists of the party yesterday attempted to get into building of UN’s representative office in Dushanbe “in order to get advice of specialists.”

“But police officers stopped us not far from the building of UN’s representative office and asked what for we are going to apply to the UN office,” Savrinisso Jourayeva said.

According to her, police officers took them the police station in the Shohmansour district, where they were fined 40.00 somoni each.

We will recall that the Supreme Court yesterday sentenced the deputy IRPT heads Saidumar Husaini and Mahmadali Hayit to life imprisonment.  Eleven other IRPT activists were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 14 to 28 years.  Zarafo Rahmoni, the party”s lawyer and the only woman in the high-profile trial, was sentenced to two years in prison.
