The chief of the drug control unit at the police department of the Bobojon-Ghafourov district in the Sughd province has been detained on suspicion of bribery.
A source at the Tajik law enforcement authorities says he was caught red-handed by anticorruption officers while taking 3,000 U.S. dollars from a drug trafficker for not instituting criminal proceedings against him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the corrupt police officer under the provisions of Article 319 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – acceptance of a bribe by an official; an investigation is under way.
The source refrained from giving further details “in the interest of the investigation.”
