A woman from the Panj district in the Khatlon province has got a lengthy jail term for poisoning her husband’s relatives and driving husband to commit suicide.
The Khatlon regional court sentenced Mohpora Himmatova to twenty-five years in prison for an attempt to kill all relatives of her husband and driving husband to suicide.
Judge Zubaydullo Mahmoudzoda, who presided over the trial, says Mohpora Himmatova and her husband were living together with husband’s relatives in the Pakhtakor village.
“Mohpora Himmatova married her husband Mirzosho Nasriddinov in April 2014. Since 2014, she has been trying to poison her husband’s relatives by adding pesticides in food. She wanted to kill all members of the family of her husband’s brother in order to become a full mistress of the house,” said the judge. “In all, 30 people have been poisoned; two of them – her husband’s brother and his underage daughter – died, and her husband committed suicide.”
Mahmoudzoda says Himattova’s guilt has been proven but she does not confess guilt.
The court sentenced Himmatova to 25 years in prison, but under the amnesty law of August 24, 2016, her term was shortened by one-fourth.
Meanwhile, Sherali Qarakhonov, a lawyer representing Mohpora Himmatova, denounced the ruling and appealed to the Supreme Court of Tajikistan. According to him, the case has been remitted for consideration to the Supreme Court.
Recall, Mohpora Himmatova was detained in summer this year.
